Liquid organic hydrogen carrier systems (LOHC) are a promising option for chemical hydrogen storage. In order to characterize the endothermic hydrogen release from the carrier liquid, it is important to know the temperature fields during dehydrogenation. In this work, phosphor thermometry was used for the first time as an imaging measurement method, utilizing both the temporal decay signal and the spectral shift of the phosphorescence. This made it possible to demonstrate significant cooling, particularly in areas close to the catalyst.
