Workgroups
The research focus of the LTT is the investigation and improvement of processes in energy and process engineering. An essential topic is the optimization of combustion processes, starting with the improvement of the still insufficient understanding of simple model flames up to experimental investigations of complex technical systems, e.g. in engines and gas turbine burners. Closely related to this is the investigation of particle formation, on the one hand to reduce the soot emission of technical combustion systems, and on the other hand in the synthesis of nanoparticles with defined properties.
Further of interest are processes of high-pressure process engineering, e.g. for the extraction of valuable materials, biotechnology, e.g. in the investigation of proteins, but also medical questions, e.g. in cancer detection. A further research focus is the improvement of the heat and mass transfer in technical plants, linked with this is the determination of mass data of important working fluids.
The provision of suitable metrological tools plays a decisive role in the investigation of the manifold complex questions in all areas of research at the LTT. In many cases, optical measuring methods and modern laser measuring techniques are developed, further developed and used for this purpose, which enable non-contact and high-resolution information acquisition.
Through the close cooperation of scientists of different education, the support by a multitude of relevant organizations and the close cooperation with well-known industrial companies, an innovative research climate has been created at the LTT, in which current issues are dealt with cooperatively.
A detailed overview of the activities of the individual research groups can be found on their pages.
