Optical Diagnostics in Energy and Process Engineering
Short description of the lecture content
The subject of the course is the determination of thermodynamic parameters such as pressure, temperature and concentration as well as e.g. particle sizes and flow fields. After an introduction to conventional measurement techniques (thermocouples etc.), the focus is on optical, mostly laser-based measurement techniques, which allow a non invasive measurement of the parameter of interest, i.e. the measurement system (e.g. a flame) is not disturbed and changed by the insertion of a mechanical probe. In the course of the lecture, the listeners are given an overview of the possible applications of optical measurement methods as well as an insight into the physical principles behind the various methods.
